A news article which brings to light my own personal perspective upon the way Literature and Literature DD's are celebrated.

Today's Literature DD is a sci-fi Trekky themed poem by Tigermoth99

Picard Writers A Love Poem

Now, I am not much of a Trekkie fan but the style, linguistic devices etc on this are phenomenal.

:bulletred: It has received only 9 comments and 316 views, 306 of which were received today, and 12 faves!

Compared to the visual DD's today, which are all fabulous, I think that this is a little disheartening.
Let's see some of the visual stuff and their numbers:
:thumb158921040: - Received 521 faves and 2,979 views (1,760 received today)
oo.oo.oo by zeenon - Received 281 faves and 933 views (630 received today)
imagination by anoru - Recieved 122 faves and 871 views (821 received today)

I am not saying that these lovely visual pieces of art do not deserve this credit, because they most certainly do (they're all beautiful pieces!)
But if you look at the numbers, it's easy to see that the literature here on deviantArt is still be underappreciated

Yesterday, bekkia's Literature also received a DD
:thumb156788025:
The response to this was great, but I still feel that it was a little underappreciated compared to the other DD's

This is a general feel for art on deviantArt as a rule.
Visual stuff is easy to :+fav: and then run with about 30 people giving feedback first, but with literature people fave without giving constructive feedback or really appreciating what has been written.
Visual art captures the eye brilliantly, with all the colours and the instant atmosphere created but with literature that requires you to actually read through it and then to really think about it (not always though!)

With the introduction of groups however, the appreciation for literature has steadily increased and there is :icondailylitdeviations: which produces a news article daily with some fantastic pieces of literature from across the whole of deviantArt. (Read through the stuff they feature, it's fabulous!)

However, I do feel that literature has to work that little bit harder to get into the spotlight simply because it's words... it's not something that instantly attracts you because there isn't any colourful anchor which goes "LOOK AT ME!!!"
Instead, it takes a patient and curious person to go through and actually read it word for word.

I am a writer here on deviantArt, but I also take photographs and I've also had visual poetry posted. The feedback on my visual work is higher than on my literature, which to me is great but at the same time disheartening as I write more than I take photographs.

The journey of literature is not over yet. Us writers still have to put ourselves out there with the risk of our work being downloaded, copied, and being underappreciated in general.
However, thanks to the lovely Literature GM LadyLincoln fllnthblnk SparrowSong and up until recently, StJoan the literature here on deviantArt is getting more and more out there, with more ways for your prose and poetry to get noticed and appreciated.

:bulletyellow: The increase in groups too have helped, like these to name just a few:
StoryShapers, UnCritic, SoItShallBeWritten, The-Words-I-Hear, HorrorLiterature, Writing-Rampage, Literotic, LoveRomanceFiction, ShortxStories, Poetry-Magnet, randomwriters-club, The-Free-Pens, Literature-League, IdeaCentre, TeenWriters, MythMash, Authors-Ink, BrotherhoodofGrammar, WA-writersblock, Poemas, LOVE-Original-LIT, Writers-Guild-DA, Taboo-Reader, Chapbooks-4-Charity (there are more)

These groups are helping to get your work vieweed and the likelihood of feedback increases with each group you submit your work to

:bulletgreen: You can also request critiques too through groups such as Critique-It and Xpose-it and there are also contests across deviantArt which are designed specifically for writing, or having two categories with a literature winner and a visual art winner.

Some Lit Contests
:bulletpink: RavensQuill's 28 Paths of Lit Contest
:bulletpink: reddaverocker's Easy Being Evil contest
:bulletpink: dreamsinstatic's Poetry Screams Prompt Contest

There are also artists and deviantArt members who post news articles with loads of literature information, such as KneelingGlory's Lit Bits, or Kaz-D's Love Lit News
This is also alongside the new re-vamped news article published by ATrue regularly, which can be found here

HOWEVER
If you want to appreciate literature more, how about stopping by 5 per day and writing a constructive comment (A constructive comment does not mean "this is good" but a full detailed opinion on the way it is written, structured etc)
Or maybe featuring some in your journal, and even better you can hold a Literature Project or maybe have Literature Days, where all the work you fave is literature?

There are many ways you can appreciate literature as highly as visual, but the first step is to READ what is being written. Please don't just :+fav: without reading it, as it is highly disheartening to us writers here on deviantArt.

Thank you for reading this article

To conclude, I am going to be featuring some of the literature which can be found throughout my collection folders :)

:thumb114884758: :thumb153140724: Make Me A HeroOn this land we do fight
Where we go, there is no light
We stand upon this land
Made up of earth and sand
The ground is red and the men are scared
If only the gods could show they cared
The stones used to make walls high
Hold the flag up in the sky
Grab your courage, if you still have any
We march on, to our enemies many
Brutal and dumb our enemy is
He will take a swing, most likely miss
They stand there roaring in our faces
They have no ranks only stand in places
They show no mercy and neither shall we
Cold our hearts must be
Charge forward to your doom
Over us the clouds loom
Run forward and up the mound we climb
Armour will not save me this time
Pain will be the only way out
My head and heart are filled with doubt
All I wanted was to be admired
Time slows down and a bullet is fired
I close my eyes and count to zero
If I should fall, make me a hero...

:thumb159068511: Joie de VivreWear your joy, you foolish boy.
Must you dither, wither and writhe?
Trill with feeling, burst with pride;
you can reminisce to-morrow night!
Beat a laugh, own the night...
Find a candle and light a life!
Grab your girl -- or maybe guy,
and kiss like it's the Very, First Time.
Write away minute mistakes,
failing's only in your mind.
Must you shiver, croon and hide?
Running's for the weak of mind.
Wear your joy, you foolish boy.
Sing like it can free your mind!
C'os when it's passed you may find;
it's those little moments that save your life!

If water came in PinkIf water came in Pink
would it be more exciting to drink?
If candy came in Black and White
would you still take a bite?
If memories came in high def
would you only download the best?
If children came with instructions
would they cause less disruptions?
The Adapted GardenA winding path
through beds of colour.
Differing textures
of plants and stones.
A garden of beauty,
adapted to changes
in the world’s climate.
This is a xeriscape.
A garden designed
to preserve resources.
Using nature wisely.
For here, even a cactus,
prickly and dry,
can be beautiful too.
Opposites AttractI love you cos you don't love me
and opposites attract

As you're aware, I like you
but you don't care like I do
Or do you? Looks like you're avoiding me,
Not used to affection from boys like me
I love you but you don't love me
It's as simple as that
I love you cos you don't love me,
and opposites attract

If you'd ask me, why do you fancy me
eighty per cent personality,
ten for your smiles, which leaves a good
ten out of ten for your looks
I love you but you don't love me
It's as simple as that
I love you cos you don't love me,
and opposites attract
I love you but you don't love me
It seems a simple fact
But not one I'll just accept,
cos opposites attract.

Yes girl, I
love your mind
Now can I please
have back mine?

Jugando con los hechos de mi vida
Unicamente para ver que
Al final de la tarde de cada día
No brillan más las estrellas en el
Cielo que la
Ardiente mirada de tus
Silenciosos ojos,
Tan apacibles como la
Inmortal luz de la
Luna, la que siempre me
Llena de esperanzas de poder
Oír aquellas palabras saliendo de tus labios…

... love.I wrote a poem for you, my friend.
With every word that I write
in every line that I end,
this love will stay, this love won't fade.
-
I wrote a poem for you, my dear.
With every beat of my heart
in every passage of time,
this love will stay, this love won't end.
-
I love you more
as I recall your beauty beyond roses and daisies
and your voice that is of a thousand symphonies,
a paradise in my memory, it is.
-
Even though we're apart, hear my words fill the sky
and the heavens up high, may these words reach your heart.
-
Even though we're apart, my mind won't forget
the moment that we've met that made me sing my heart.
-
I wrote a poem for you, my girl.
With every breath that I take
in every part of my life,
this love will stay, this love won't fade.
-
I wrote a poem for you;
I wrote what's on my heart,
a poem that I will speak,
for you, my...
Behind Blue EyesBlue.
Deep.
Deeper than the sky,
I see it in your eyes.
Your eyes are like oceans of sadness,
Hurting to look at me.
I can sense your pain, the fear inside you.
You will never let it out, I know.
The tears well up, sparkling,
You are so beautiful, my love.
I watch you night and day,
You and your beautiful blue eyes.
So much hurt in them,
So much pain,
Like my eyes.
Like my heart.
I hug you closer,
Tightly as possible.
I clutch your hand,
Give you the love you need.
I give you the love that I want,
That my eyes beg for,
So that no one has to suffer my fate.
I will give myself..
To your sparkling eyes.

SenselessBlue are cuckoo nests,
Resting on the palette
of my swollen taste buds.
Red is the sound
of the blood boiling
behind my eyes.
Hurt is my sweating
sweet heart that falters
at this perversion of sense.
I've lost my way and
there's no-one to lead me
home again home again,
Downhill and updale,
Through the windy gap,
back round the bend.
That's where you'll find me,
All bruised and torn,
A palette of blue, black and red.
I never should've taken that drink.
