My October Faves

Once in a Moon.O'er the twilit isles they soared,
weaving their hearts in the stratus.
He bore the rain in his azure scales.
She, the breath of air in her ivory eyes.
They intertwined within the clouds,
showering the soil below.
Wound about each other like vines,
their kiss precipitates the growth
of life from the dirt. Green rows
spring from the gardens in time.
With morning sun, the parted skies
linger with mist of whispered goodbyes.
Let me fool you.Weave the black lace through my heart.
Cinch the pieces back together.
Trace the paintbrush on my lips.
Curve an everlasting smile.

I feel you should know that I would take you to Aokigahara with me, to drown in the sea of trees. We would step delicately over the personal belongings left behind by other people so willing to end their lives. We could curl up in a crystalline cavern and whisper bocca chiusa until the sweet smell of pine aroused every sense within our slowly dying bodies. (Because everybody is dying, just sometimes we don't feel it.) We'll mingle together sensually, touched by the riveting dusk at the base of Mount Fuji, the center of the world, la petite mort.
I pen you verses, sonnets, present to you that which is me through my words strummed doloroso to their crescendo, but I hide the texts on scraps of notebook paper and I never deliver. You'll never see, my muse, those words splashed upon reels of tape stretched from tree to tree (my heart to yours). In a silent forest

tainted truths and temptationdewdrops fall from
fresh, fragrant flora,
and
decaying daffodils alike.
water drips from a leaky faucet,
tainted truths spill over supple lips.
what a pretty name for lies.
falsities
roll from a lissome tongue,
sounding seductive symphonies,
sugaring bitterness with honey.
don't get stung.
I am the young stream through which the refuse runs;
the tender sapling hollowed with unseen rot.
dark, silken truths,
and ruddy, velvet fact,
woven,
sewn together to create a lovely mask.
beautiful, ornate,
loathsome folds of fabrication.
deceit is spoken with conviction and allure
so strong and piercing
they blind,
distract,
so you don't see the shift of beguiling eyes;
you miss the timber of velvet voice;
you ignore the nervous twining of fingers into
blameless shirt fabric and tangled, tantalizing hair.
feel my throat,
hoarse from false fidelity tearing tissue;
feel my lips,
cracked on the jagged edges of discrete duplicity;
feel my tongue,
calloused from forming frequent falsehoods.

the snow came earlythe snow came early this year
dusting places it had never been,
muting the way fog does
catching the leaves unaware
while I peered from the
empty nests in their open hands
the snow came early this year
with birds leaving long before
the first chill arrived
in the wake of their migration
in every direction I could fathom
and the exposure it presented
where I'd been warmed by the sun
but the snow came early this year
as I knew it would
when the spiders came in,
and the last long day grew dim
